A Return to the Blogosphere!

Hello internet! Long time no see, eh? Well what can I say, I’ve been pretty busy. Most of 2015 was spent living in a cabin in the woods of New Hampshire with limited internet access. Not that I’m complaining of course! It was a beautiful area and I met a lot of really great people.

I was a part of the Student Conservation Association (SCA) New Hampshire Corps, which is a 10-month program where members live at an old CCC camp in Bear Brook State Park, teach lesson on local ecology to 4th graders in Manchester, lead high school crews, develop and present interpretive programs at state parks all over the state, and work on trail building and maintenance projects, all while living in a communal setting and trying to not kill each other by the end of it. This is a major over-simplification of what my daily life was like, but it will do for now.

Needless to say, I had an amazing time, learned a lot about trail work, learned a lot about myself, and made some amazing friends that I will never forget. Now on to my current occupation!

The Bear-Brookers in their best blues.

I just moved to the lovely small town of Hoosick Falls in upstate New York. I am doing another SCA internship, this time as an Assistant Park Naturalist at Grafton Lakes State Park. I live in a historic homestead house near Bennington Battlefield along the shore of the mighty Walloomsac River. The snow here is deep and the days can be pretty frigid, but that hasn’t stopped me from exploring my new habitat, as you will read about in my next post.

My new home!

I expect to be posting at least twice a month this year on various topics which include but are not limited to:
  • The many adventures I will have at my new job
  • Exploring the mountains and rivers around my new home
  • Attempting to achieve my goal of going zero waste by the end of the year
  • Various cooking and gardening projects

This is going to be an exciting year and I am excited to share it with all my friends and family! (and whoever else decides that my blog is interesting or at lease mildly entertaining).
